Berlin through a Pen-F

We did Berlin again, 21-10 we started our 10 day trip which ended in the nice city of Zeitz. We started at Beelitz Heilstatten and did some more urban exploring. But that is not for this blog post. Just before we left i bought a new camera, said to be a real street shooters cam. An Olympus Pen-F with a free 25mm 1.8. So be it, i used it a lot during this holiday. A real joy!

All the above shots are taken with the 25mm on the Pen-F. What a combination it is! All photo’s edited with Capture one Pro 10 which i think does a great job on the Olympus raw files.

Bastogne

On the 26th of July 2017 during my summer holiday my daughter and i visited Bastogne. We went to the WOII Memorial and visited the town. During our visit of the town i made the above shots which give an impression of what i saw in Bastonge.

Pflegeheim H.E.

We visited this ‘Pflegeheim’ on our Urbex roadtrip in Harz, Germany early May this year. After i finished the bracketing shots with the Sony i decided to take out my Fuji X30 and make some shots. There was enough light available to shoot handheld without going over iso 400. All these shots are edited using camera raw.

I really like the X30, though i do think the shots need post processing to make them more interesting the output of this small sensor amazes me. Good companion even on urban exploration trips.

The Pflegeheim itself was very interesting, We both work in healthcare so we were amazed to see the stuff left behind, a small museum for us! We had a great explore here and left with a big smile because we didn’t know for sure we could still explore this location, rumors of it being renovated were a few months old but could have been true.

Visited the Open Air Museum in Arnhem, the Netherlands with my daughter on the 22nd of April 2017. Very nice museum and earlier in the year it’s not that crowded.

Immerath and Garzweiler II

On the fifth of january i visited the small village of Immerath and the Garzweiler II opencast mine which is very close. With me was my friend Edwin who i met online and share a big love for photography, we try to go out once in a while for a nice photowalk. This time a village and i mine, what is the relation between these two? Well the mine eats villages! And the village Immerath is next in line.

Immerath is almost a ghost town these days. Walking here was different. I visited Doel in Belgium but that was very colorful and cosier. Immerath felt cold and sad even on this sunny day. We walked the streets, we entered some houses and we talked about the feeling this village gave us. The following photo’s show Immerath as it is now. Not the most spectacular photo’s but more a documentation of what i saw.

After Immerath we drove to see the Garzweiler II Opencast mine. It was a nice short ride which took us through where the village of Pesch once was.

The mine itself was impressive, the machines are far away but it’s easy to guess the size of them. I had to use lot’s of telezoom to get the machines in the frame. Below are some shots taken at the mine form the ‘Aussichtspunkt’. Just the new end of a road which is gone now. In the series above you can see Edwin standing over the mine taking some shots, i didn’t dare walk on that sky view with my fear of heights.

Berlin through a Fuji X20.

Some weeks ago i posted concert pictures form ‘The Cure’ playing at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin. I used my newest camera a Fuji X20 which i bought for the occasion.

Nice small camera which i also carried with me walking the streets of Berlin the 2 days we didn’t went away for urban exploration. We roamed the streets of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg.

In this blog entry you will see a series shot with the X20 processed in Adobe’s CameraRaw. I am happy with the look of the photo’s, they have a nice color rendition and are sharp enough. Just do not go pixel peeping. That is a lost cause compared to the full frame Sony. But still, i like the X20 and will keep it!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Saturday December the 18th my daughter and i visited ”Dickens Festijn” in Deventer. This is a yearly returning event and a lot of spectators from the Netherlands but also surrounding countries like Belgium and Germany visit. Crowded, well yes. 150.000 people over the days you can visit. This meant we had to wait for an hour and a half before we could enter and photography was difficult, everybody wants the prime spot to watch!

Above a series converted to black and white. I used Adobe Camera raw for the processing of the two series. Two days before this event i acquired a Olympus M.Zuiko ED 60mm 2.8 Macro. I read in reviews this lens was also useful as a portrait lens so i only used this one. I immediately fell in love with this lens, wide open rendering and sharpness is on high level, a very good purchase to accompany my E-M10 MK2. Below a series processed in color.

KZ Sachsenhausen

KZ Sachsenhausen. An impressive place. On Saturday we visited the former bakery which made bread for this concentration camp (and some more locations). This bakery we did the urbex way. Our plan was to visit the airfield at ”Schönwalde” but because we already visited the airfield Rangersdorf we decided to go and visit the memorial at Sachsenhausen. Above is a series shot with my Fuji X20.

It was very difficult to take photographs without other visitors on it but somehow we managed to get shots with patience. We couldn’t spent a whole day here, we had to drive back home after this visit. Glad we visited it.I think it is important that we all remember the horror’s that took place in these dark years of our history, so it will not find it’s way back into the minds of those deluded that want to make fascism rise again…

The Cure.

The Cure is touring this year. We decided to visit at least one of the concerts in Europe. In the end due to circumstances we both saw two of them. First we visited Berlin. Mercedes Benz Arena. This was the concert we would visit together. Berlin our favorite place to be would be great to see the concert. And it was, off course! We decided to book a hotel for 8 nights so we could do some urban exploration and see the city.

Amsterdam was next, i wasn’t supposed to see this one but circumstances made it possible. We booked a Hotel for one night and had a great time. Both concerts our friend from Portugal was there to and we met other friends form Germany and the Netherlands in both countries.

Music wise the concert in Amsterdam was the better one. More energy from the band, a more ”happy” Mr Smith. After all it was great to see both shows.

I wanted to photograph them but an interchangeable lens system was not allowed, at least i thought. In Berlin i would have been caught but in Amsterdam i could have walked in with a camera and telezoom lens in my pocket, they didn’t check. I brought a Fuji X20 which i bought for the occasion, nice camera and did the job knowing the long end would be to short. Above a mix of Pictures from both concerts. The different angle of view gives away which belong together.
