Beekberger Woud on Superia 200

I never used my Nikkor 80-200 1:2.8 D, push and pull version on my analogue bodies. From the D90 i knew it is a great lens. So me and my friend Remy went to Beekberger Woud and i took my F100 and the 80-200 with me. Above you can see the entire set. Most nature snapshots with a few nice catches. Also 2 shots of my friend.

Nikon F100 – Nikkor 80-200 1:2.8D(push/pull) – Fuji Superia 200 asa(expire date unknown) – Nikon Coolscan LS-40 – Nikon Scan 4.03 – Phortoshop CC 2014.

The Gardens on Superia Xtra 400.

Back with more analogue.  All images shot with my Nikon F3, 50mm f2 ai-s on SuperiaXtra 400 asa expired 2-2011. I used the DW-3 waist level finder. Nice slow down photography using this kind off focusing and i am happy with the results. It was difficult to get accurate focus but almost every shot was a hit, maybe because i really took the time for the composition end the focusing. Shots are all taken at The Gardens of Life in Teuge, The Netherlands. Enjoy!

Berlin, Prenzlauerberg on Kodak Ektar 100 asa

The last day of our may Berlin trip. We visited Prenzlauerberg. I decided only to shoot analogue and filled my F100 with Kodak Ektar 100 asa expired 10-2011. Here are the results of that day.

Techstuff; Nikon F100, Nikkor 50mm 1.4 g AF-S, Kodak Ektar 100 asa Expired 10-2011, Coolscan LS-40, Photoshop.

Teufelsberg and Hohenschönhausen on Kodak TMax 400.

As promised in my last post, here is the second roll of film. Started at Teufelsberg and finished at Hohenschönhausen. Teufelsberg is an old NATO station used by the americans to listen to the east. Hohenschönhausen is the reason why perhaps? An old Stasi prison which is now a memorial place. The only portrait in the serie is our guide who has been imprisoned there.

Techstuff; Nikon F100, Nikkor 50mm 1.4 g AF-S, Kodak Tmax 400 asa Expired 5-2013, Coolscan LS-40, Photoshop.

Beelitz-Heilstätten (Berlin Brandeburg) on Portra 400 NC very expired.

This may we went on holiday to Berlin. We started of with Film Hotel Lily Marleen in Potsdam on the 18th. Potsdam we wanted to see because the trip before we just saw Sans Souci. Potsdam was ok but not great. But…..Before we came to Potsdam we stopped at Beelitz-Heilstätten for a nice urbex adventure, wich it became! I brought my just bought Olympus E-M10 but also being the the only Nikon gear my F100+50mm 1.4g AF-S. The film was expired unfortunately very expired. I had a lot of work in Photoshop adjusting the scans, but here is the whole series of that filmroll. Hope you can enjoy anyway! I filled 2 more rolls wich i will post soon.

Techstuff; Nikon F100, Nikkor 50mm 1.4 g AF-S, Kodak Portra 400 nc Expired(no clue but not great film no more), Coolscan LS-40, Photoshop.

New 50mm on the F3.

When i bought the F3 it came as body and motordrive only, no lens. I like 50mm and have some in my collection. But i wanted to keep the pre ai on the nikomat and the 1.8 af-d didn’t seem right as it had a much newer cosmetic appearance. So finally the seller i got the F3 from had a few 50mm ai and ai-s lenses. I chose the 50mm 1:2 ai. The photo’s in this post are made with this lens and the last 5(6 including the b&w conversion) are shot using the DW-3 waist level finder i also got from that seller.

I love this lens. According to the internet it may be a bit slower but is tack sharp. Well, it was the cheapest, my main reason to get this one. The film used is fresh Agfa Vista 400 asa, Hema developed the film and scratched it again? I am still not sure if the F3 scracthes the film or Hema does it. A few analogue photographers i have contact with are sure it is Hema who does it when they examined the scan with scratches. Anyways, ice eliminates the problem on color negatives an positives anyways.

Tech details: Nikon F3 with on photo 1 to 3 normal finder and 4 to 9 the DW-3 wlf – Nikkor 50mm 1:2 ai – Agfa Vista 400 asa fresh batch – Nikon Coolscan LS-40 – Nikon scan 4.03 12 bit Ice/fine – Photoshop for adjusting black and white levels and a little usm – Border maker for border – Irfan view for resize.

Some weeks ago the sun seemed willing to shed some nice winterlight in my garden. So i asked my daughter if she would pose. So she did in her winter outfit. It was fun and out of 16 shots i selected these 5.

Nikomat, love it!

Nikomat FT2 + Nikkor 50mm 1:2. This gear is a gift, a great gift. What a fun machine to work with. Also i am pleasantly surprised with the lens. If you have read my previous post about the F3, for the pictures and the feeling about these counts as the same. This is what i see around me and for me it’s fun to do, maybe it’s not that interesting for you as a reader, but as some info and performance of gear and film it might be usefull.

Techstuff: Nikomat FT2, Nikkor 50mm 1:2, Fuji Superia Xtra 400 asa expired 2-2012, Coolscan LS-40, Nikon San 4.03 12 bit default ice fine, Photoshop CC for color correction and some little tweaks like sharpening. Bordermaker was used for the white border and sig.

More F3

Yes, shooting with the F3 is fun. The pictures in this post will not qualify as great pictures but the fun i had making them is what is important to me. All are shot with an ai-s lens i have owned for a longer time, a Kiron made Vivitar 28mm 1:2.5. Ah well it’s not super sharp wide open and for some good corners i need to go to f8 i guess but what the hell, it’s solid as a rock and looks great on the F3. Focusses so easy and gives me fun. Do still need a 50mm that will work with the normal metering function, i have a 50mm f2 pre ai wich can only do ‘stop down metering’.  The used film was expired, no clue how long. The Hema is strange, some negatives are badly damaged with scratches and some are almost not, makes me wonder what the hell they do in their lab. In practical terms this means some negatives are in PS for 1 minute and some for 10 to 15 before dust and scratches are gone. Maybe, i should or maybe i would be a wiser man if i developed the black and white film myself.

All the pictures are taken on my walks with the dog in a circle roughly 2km around my home. For me the shots , well some at least, make sense. Normally i view it walking by. Now the environment has become a still. For me great to look at and makes my world look different.

For the technical part, Nikon F3 – Vivitar 28mm 1:2.8 ai-s(serial 22…) – Kodak TMax 100 asa expired(date unknown) shot at iso 100 – Nikon Scan 4.03 at default negative/mono setting – Tiff to Photoshop CC for dust and scratch removal and some tweaks in levels and a little sharpening.

Shooting a Nikon L35af…

Well for one i am not a compact camera shooter. I have played with a Pentax compact, even a Leica c1 but somehow i cannot become friends. Same story for the L35AF, though it seems like a good camera, with according to some background checking, a nice 35mm 2.8 lens. So i filled it with Hema 100 iso film, expired but no clue on it’s age. Did the normal kind off stuff, around the place where i live. But 24 shots through the scanner showed me at least 10 with user error. Must be because about 14 did look fine. It are not the most interesting shots, sorry for that. See it as a test, wich in the end it was.

Will i shoot with it again? Well maybe fresh film will show the promised sharpness a bit better but i think it will be sold or just keeps laying in a locker for ages. Also have an Olympus compact filled with film laying here somewhere, should finish the roll of film on that one to.
